What is a European Certificate of Conformity?
The European Certificate of Conformity is a European certificate issued by the car manufacturer brand which allows to register in Europe and thus in England any vehicle imported from the European Union certifying that the vehicle complies with European standards and directives (CE) when it leaves the factory, and therefore complies with its registration in England and its sale in any European country.
It is therefore an official document issued by the vehicle manufacturer certifying that the vehicle leaving its production line is compliant and has a Community type-approval number.
The European certificate of conformity is obligatory when the imported vehicle is registered for the first time in French or European Prefecture. If the vehicle does not have a European Certificate of Conformity, it will be necessary in this case to have the national certificate of conformity or attestation of identification to a national type.
This document is only valid for registering and obtaining the registration certificate of a vehicle imported into France. Since the document is not European, it will have no value in Europe. Indeed a French national certificate of conformity does not allow to register for example a Belgian vehicle in Italy.
EUROPEAN CERTIFICATE OF CONFORMITY ?
The European certificate of conformity is available for type L or M1 vehicles (motorcycles, cars), manufactured for European market only, whose date of first registration of the vehicle is prior to 1996.
